Show Presets

At Taz's core are Show Presets, an innovative system that lets you store unlimited songs and distinct set lists within a single Ableton Live project file.

Every locator in your Live set automatically populates the Source Cue List as a song start point. Simply drag songs from the List into a Show Preset and you're stage-ready.

Creating alternate set lists is just as effortless: duplicate an existing preset and modify it from there.

Spoken Slates

Turn locators and clips into vocal cues. Taz reads any locator/clip name starting with an asterisk (e.g., * Dynamite In E) aloud in your chosen language when the playhead passes that locator or launches that clip. Voilá!

Playback Indicators

Understand clearly what cue is staged to play next, which cue is currently live, and how much time remains for that cue.

You can also view the total time of all cues in the current Show Preset and a continuously updating countdown of how much time remains across all cues in the current Show Preset.

Special Locators

Your locators just got a level-up. Taz expands on Ableton Live's locators by supercharging them with versatile playback controls, allowing for instant looping across any number of beats, loop toggling, auto-stopping transport, ad-hoc Spoken Slates, song length tracking, cue skipping, and more.

You can even exclude specific cues from your setlist while keeping their Spoken Slates fully active (useful for song arrangement call-outs.)

FAQs

Ableton Live 11 and Live 12, in any edition that can run Max for Live devices.

Yes. Taz is a Max for Live device and cannot run without it.

- Ableton Live Suite includes Max for Live.
- Ableton Live Standard requires the Max for Live add-on.
- Ableton Live Intro / Lite cannot run Max for Live, so Taz will not run.

You do not need a separate license for Max/MSP itself, and you don't need to know how to use Max. Taz installs and behaves like any other Live device.

Taz supports macOS 11 Big Sur and later, on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

Taz imposes no macOS requirement beyond what Ableton Live already does. One download, no Rosetta, no separate Intel version.

No. Taz is macOS-only.

Several core features are built directly on macOS technologies and a Windows version would require replacing each of these. There is no current timeline for one.

Yes. Taz never contacts the internet. It does not "phone home", check licenses online, download anything, or send analytics. Your show runs entirely on your machine.

While Spoken Slate generation is offline as the voices come from macOS, note that Apple's premium and enhanced voices must be downloaded once through System Settings before Taz can use them. After that, they work without an internet connection.

As many as you own. Your Taz license is not per-machine. Install it on your studio Mac, your live rig, and your backup laptop.

Please don't share your license with other people. Taz is developed and supported by a very small team, and honoring that is what keeps it affordable.

No. Every connection to Taz Remote requires the access code from your QR Code. Without it, Taz Remote won't even load, so port-scanning your Mac gets a locked door. Taz also refuses connections from other web pages on the network.
